How to Cite a President Trump Tweet (4) The use of innovative technology by presidents to address the nation isn’t a new concept. Abraham Lincoln was one of the first presidents to use the telegram, Franklin Roosevelt spoke via radio through his Fireside Chats, and Harry Truman was the first president to broadcast on TV. It isn’t too surprising that our Commander-in-Chief can now be coined as the “Commander-in-Tweet.”  President Donald Trump’s excessive use of Twitter has kept us up-to-date on his promises, goals, and thoughts on pretty much every topic from jobs, international relations, and even celebrity meetups. Its only natural that we would want to cite some of these tweets. To help, weve put together a guide on how to cite them in MLA format, APA format, or Chicago style. To cite a tweet from President Trump, or “Trump Tweet,” locate the following pieces of information: His Twitter handle (@realDonaldTrump or @POTUS) The full tweet including any hashtags The date and time the tweet was posted The URL or direct link to the tweet (this can be found by clicking on the three dots at the bottom right of his tweets) Use the following structure to cite a Trump Tweet in MLA 8: @TwitterHandle. “Content of Tweet.” Twitter, Date, Time, URL (omit // or //). The above tweet from Donald Trump would be cited like this in MLA 8: @realDonaldTrump. “I will be having a general news conference on JANUARY ELEVENTH in N.Y.C.
